The results of atomistic simulations of the deformation response of Au nano-foams of different levels of porosity and constant ligament size are presented. The results of virtual tensile testing are compared with the predictions from scaling laws for both the elastic modulus and the yield strength. It is shown that the mechanisms of plasticity can vary with the degree of porosity. The results are consistent with a model in which, as the porosity increases, only a fraction of the ligaments carry the load, resulting in an apparent relative density that is lower that the actual value.
