The Role of Interface Structure in Spallation of a Layered Nanocomposite
N Gupta and MI Baskes and SG Srinivasan, JOM, 63, 74-77 (2011).
Interfaces in nanostructured materials play a central role in endowing some extraordinary properties to certain nanolayered composites. Here, we examine how interfaces influence spallation under extreme strain-rate loading using atomistic simulations, and illustrate how even at the picosecond-scale the interface structure, or lack thereof, governs dynamic fracture.
