Molecular Dynamics Study of Slip Behaviors: Role of a Soft Attractive Tail

The role of soft attractive tails in nano-scale cylindrical Couette flows is investigated by using molecular dynamics computer simulations. The cylindrical Couette flow is generated by rotating an inner wall with a fixed outer wall. By varying the cutoff distance of the Lennard-Jones potential, we can easily control the inclusion or exclusion of an attractive component. We found that the number density and the tangential velocity profiles along the radial direction show rather strikingly different behaviors that can be classified into four distinctive flow types of slip behaviors due to the soft attractive tail.
