Segregation thickness effect on the mechanical behaviors of nanocrystalline Ni-doped W alloy

The effect of segregation thickness in the grain boundary affect zone (GBAZ) on the mechanical behaviors of nanocrystalline nickel (Ni)-doped tungsten (W) alloy is analyzed by molecular dynamic simulation. The results show that segregation thickness in the GBAZ affects the mechanical behaviors in an obvious way. The curve of segregation thickness vs peak stress is similar to the relationship between grain size and strength. The optimal mechanical behavior can be obtained when the segregation thickness in the GBAZ is controlled to around 7.5 angstrom. Changes in the GBAZ segregation thickness lead to different numbers of amorphous atoms and various defect activities, which is the reason for the strength difference. (C) 2021 Elsevier B.V.
